Chris Joblin has been CEO since mid-2015, after joining TGH in 2009. He leads our 45-strong team that manages a diversified $1.6b portfolio of investments to build intergenerational wealth for Waikato-Tainui. Chris, who was previously CFO at AFFCO Holdings, is a member of the NZ Institute of Accountants (CA) and the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ (INFINZ – CTP). His passion for big picture thinking to support the success of the iwi and Waikato region was recognised with the 2021 CEO of the Year Award in the Waikato Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

Richard Jefferies
Chief Financial OfficerRichard is of Waikato-Tainui descent and is from Poohara Marae. His other iwi affiliations include Ngaati Raukawa and Ngaati Tukorehe. Richard has previously held finance and management roles with KPMG, Open Country Dairy, and led strategy development in tourism for New Zealand Rugby, and Manchester City Football Club in the UK in a contracting role. Before returning to TGH, Richard was CFO for a local technology exporter, BBC Technologies (now Tomra Fresh). Richard is chairman of the Ruakura Inland Port joint venture (with Port of Tauranga), and director of TGH’s Hamilton and Auckland hotel businesses. Richard is a member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and NZ (CA), Institute of Finance Professionals NZ (INFINZ – CTP), and the NZ Institute of Directors.

Pierre Tohe
GM EngagementPierre (Ngaati Mahuta, Ngaati Whaawhaakia) joined us in February 2017, bringing a depth of experience from his previous roles as Head of Maaori Business and in-house legal counsel at BNZ. Born in the Waikato and of Waikato descent, Pierre is a proven leader in Maaori Business and has strong whakapapa links to Taniwha, Waahi and Kaitumutumu marae. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Laws (LLM (Hons)) from the University of Auckland.

Karl Retief
GM PropertyKarl was appointed GM Property in December 2019. He brings almost two decades of experience in managing large scale, complex property portfolios through previous roles with listed entity Kiwi Property. He holds an MBA from Southern Cross University (NSW).

Ivan Bartley
GM DevelopmentIvan Bartley joined TGH in May 2020 and has more than 20 years’ experience in the property industry in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Prior to joining TGH, Ivan held development roles at AMP Capital New Zealand and Kiwi Property Group where he was responsible for delivering large scale commercial and retail developments. Ivan is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

John Bartley
Chief Investment OfficerJohn Bartley joined TGH in October 2021 to lead TGH’s implementation of the new Waikato-Tainui investment framework - Puna Whakatupu Tangata. He brings 20 years experience in investment analysis and corporate strategy having previously worked for BNZ, ANZ Private Equity and Fonterra, including most recently 11 years with the NZ Super Fund. John was born and raised in Tokoroa in South Waikato and is of NZ and Samoan descent. He holds a Bachelor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (Hons) from the University of Waikato and a Master of Applied Finance from the University of Melbourne.
