Teahooterangi Pihama (Ngaati Maahanga, Te Atiawa, Taranaki Iwi, Ngaati Maru, Ngaati Whanaunga) has been announced as the third appointee to the Tainui Group Holdings’ Te Ohu Amorangi Future Director programme.
An impressive background in banking, strategy, Maaori engagement and kaupapa Maaori governance coupled with an upbringing grounded in te ao Maaori, Teahooterangi was selected from 46 other high-quality candidates, all of whom whakapapa to Tainui waka.
Te Ohu Amorangi is a two-year programme to grow and develop future director talent, allowing for institutional knowledge and company strategy to be shared and understood, while supporting the growth of governance capability within iwi members.
“Te Ohu Amorangi is a valuable learning and development opportunity that will enable me to spend quality time with experienced and knowledgeable individuals. It will challenge me to do more critical thinking and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges iwi commercial boards face across a range of kaupapa,” said Teahooterangi, who brings a 12-year career in banking and finance, including five years as Head of Maaori Advisory for Kiwibank.
“Knowledge isn’t knowledge if it is not shared. The pool of Maaori working within commercial spaces is not large, and I hope I can share with TGH and Waikato-Tainui some of the pukenga I’ve gained from my experience and the roles I have held.”
Tainui Group Holdings Chair, Hinerangi Raumati-Tu’ua, said Te Ohu Amorangi provided an opportunity to build a pipeline of future iwi commercial leaders who bring a different generational view and strong cultural capability along with technical skills and experience.

Previous appointees to Te Ohu Amorangi are Michelle Kemp (Ngaati Mahuta, Ngaati Makirangi) and Lee Taharangi Gray (Waikato, Ngaati Maniapoto, Ngaati Apakura, Ngaati Raukawa, Ngaai Te Rangi, Ngaati Kahungunu).
