Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) has commenced development of a new industrial gases depot on a circa 9,000sqm site situated at Aka Matua Lane in the Ruakura Superhub.

TGH has appointed Hamilton-based Foster Construction to construct the depot which includes gas storage and loading facilities, a workshop, office, carparks and landscaping.

When complete, the current intention is that the new depot will transfer to the ownership of the new joint venture between TGH and global investment firm Brookfield Asset Management formed in April this year with a goal to develop out a further 70ha of logistics development assets at the intermodal logistics precinct over the next 7-10 years.

The depot will be leased to Air Liquide, a world leader in gases, technologies and services for industry and healthcare.

TGH Acting Chief Executive, Richard Jefferies welcomed Air Liquide’s decision to operate a depot at Ruakura and further broaden the mix of product and service providers at the Superhub.

“The timely availability of industrial gases is critical for our region. This new facility is another step towards a more productive and resilient regional economy and it’s also pleasing it will see increased cargo volumes passing through Ruakura Inland Port,” says Richard.

The Superhub’s golden triangle location adjacent to the Waikato Expressway, East Coast Main Trunk rail line and Ruakura Inland Port provides multiple transport options to ensure a resilient supply chain for Air Liquide.
