Ruakura Superhub – Autumn 2021 update

Stage 1 of the Ruakura Superhub

Leading our update can be no other than the start of works to develop the Ruakura Superhub more than a decade after the idea first emerged.

Stage 1 is a 92ha block located between the East Coast Main Trunk line (where the inland port is sited) and Nevada Rd, with Silverdale Rd on the western boundary and the new Waikato Expressway on the eastern boundary.

As the photo shows, this stage includes an inland port (17ha), logistics zone (35ha), industrial zone (25ha), service centre (5ha) and wetland (10ha).

If you drive by the site you’ll see plenty happening. Earthworks to create the wetland began in December 2020 and civil works for new roading to connect the Superhub to Waikato Expressway and Kirikiriroa began in February 2021. A total of 5km of new public roads are being built, in partnership with Hamilton City Council, and we expect to have that mahi completed by mid-2022.

The inland port, which we are developing with our port operations partner Port of Tauranga, is scheduled to open at the same time, along with the wetland. Stage 1 will see more than one million native trees and shrubs planted.

The start of development has been made possible through Government and Hamilton City Council funding support. Tino nui ngaa mihi ki a koorua.
